11:33 am - For him who has rocked, I salute him

I'm sad to learn that Les Paul has died, but also amazed that he had been playing professionally for the past 70 years.

Django fans have reason to be especially grateful to Les Paul, as he paid for Django to receive a decent burial and pulled strings to ensure that his family received a fair share of the royalties.

It's been pointed out all over the internet that, without Les Paul, rock and roll might not have made it past the skiffle stage. It's a little-known fact that he also invented one of heavy metal's two basic images (the other one involves mythical beasts).

So much better than Whitesnake

Heard about this this morning, and thought of you. A sad loss - but 70 years of playing is pretty impressive!

That Django loves his documents, doesn't he?

He was particularly excited in this photo because Les Paul was showing him the latest bebop documents from America. All American documents from this period bear traces of Parker and Gillespie's rhythmic and harmonic innovations.
